The new year is upon us, and this means a new start. Why not give your kitchen a new start as well, and freshen it up for the coming year? The experts from House Beautiful have already spoken, and here are some of the trends they expect to see in our kitchens in 2016.

1) Colour coordination

You’d be amazed at the different surfaces, appliances and utensils which are now available in every colour of the rainbow. Splashbacks, saucepans, and cupboard doors are up for grabs in pinks, oranges, polka dots and textures you’d never even considered. Think outside the box and choose something vibrant or quirky.

2) Professional quality appliances

So many of us have discovered the joys of entertaining and cooking that it makes sense to buy the same top quality items that professionals like in their kitchens. Stainless steel cookers, gas burners and microwave drawers (perfect for islands) are popular choices which have crossed over to the domestic kitchen.

3) Customized tiling

If you’ve looked into tiling, whether that’s for floors or walls, it’s quite likely that you’ve seen hundreds of potentials, but none which quite hit the spot. Why not commission a design of your own?

4) Groovy gadgets

2015 was the year of the juicer, and thanks to the Great British Bake Off, the food mixer. Popular choices for 2016 appear to be soup makers, juice blenders, and bean to cup coffee machines.

5) Taps with a twist

Quooker make a range of taps which provide instant boiling water, doing away with the need for a kettle. InSinkErator do a similar product, but you may wish to consider one of their trademark waste disposal units, which can be controlled by a button installed by your kitchen taps.

NJ Design would be happy to work with you to include these or any other features into your new kitchen, to make your 2016 the envy of all your friends and relatives.
